30WEST and Likely Story has officially tapped Midsommar star Jack Reynor to join the Power Ballad cast for John Carney’s next musical comedy movie.
The upcoming project marks Reynor’s fourth collaboration with Carney after previously working together in the coming-of-age dramedy Sing Street and Apple TV+’s Flora and Son film. Besides Power Ballad, the Irish actor will next be seen in the thriller drama Brightwater with Emily Browning and The Perfect Couple miniseries with Nicole Kidman and Dakota Fanning. He was also recently cast in Amazon’s Citadel Season 2.
Production Begins on Power Ballad
“The film is an uplifting, music-driven story about a wedding singer (Rudd), a rock star (Jonas), and the song that comes between them,” reads the logline.
Power Ballad is being directed and produced by Carney from a screenplay he co-wrote with Peter McDonald. Reynor will be joining previously announced lead stars Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) and Nick Jonas (Welcome to Jumanji), who have already started filming the movie in Dublin, Ireland. The project is produced by Anthony Bregman and Peter Cron for for Likely Story, alongside Robert Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan for Treasure Entertainment. 30WEST is fully financing the movie, with WME Independent handling the sales to its international rights and UTA Independent Film Group handling its domestic sales.
