Donald Trump’s upcoming biopic, The Apprentice reportedly got a nearly eight-minute-long standing ovation after its premiere at Cannes. However, it also stirred up major controversy following multiple objectionable scenes involving Sebastian Stan’s young Trump.
The Apprentice features controversial Donald Trump rape scene
While people appreciated the drama that The Apprentice showcased at Cannes, many were shocked by a scene between Sebastian Stan’s Trump and Trump’s ex-wife Ivana, played by Maria Bakalova.
There were reportedly multiple unflattering sequences that featured the two. However, the one controversial moment that stood out to many in the audience featured Trump sexually assaulting Ivana.
In the scene, Ivana shows her husband a book about the benefits of a female orgasm. But things take a drastic turn as Trump replies that he isn’t attracted to her anymore. Their argument intensifies and leads Trump to toss her on the ground, angrily thrusting himself into her saying, “Is that your G spot? Did I find it?”
Per Variety, people reacting to the scene labeled it “gross” and described what happened in the scene as “rape.” Another woman who watched the film reportedly called it a “disturbing sexual assault.”
This drama depicts Donald Trump’s life from the 70s to the 80s and there are reportedly other unsettling moments in the film apart from the rape scene as well. A few include Trump receiving liposuction, consuming amphetamine pills, and getting rid of his bald patch with surgery.
Donald Trump’s campaign hasn’t appreciated how he has been portrayed in the biopic, with reps even calling it “blatantly false,” and purely fiction. In reply, director Ali Abbasi has offered to have a private screening arranged for Trump. As per AP news, the director even said that he doesn’t think Trump would dislike the film after knowing its context.
While The Apprentice has a few objectionable scenes, it also reportedly showcases the billionaire’s success and tries to make the audience sympathize with him.
Besides Sebastian Stan and Maria Bakalova, The Apprentice stars Jeremy Strong, Martin Donovan, Charlie Carrick, and Catherine McNally, among others. It doesn’t have a release date yet.
