Disneyland’s Club 33 Being Turned Into a Movie, Shawn Levy Producing

Disneyland’s Club 33 is being turned into a movie.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool & Wolverine’s Shawn Levy has signed on to produce a new feature film based on Disneyland’s Club 33. Darren Lemke (King Fu Panda 4, Gemini Man) is writing the screenplay for the movie, while Dan Levine (The Boogeyman, Shadow and Bone) and Dan Cohen (Stranger Things) also serve as producers.

Emily Morris is overseeing the film project for 21 Laps.

What is Disney’s Club 33?

“The story centers on Kim, a young aspiring detective living in present-day New York, who receives a mysterious invite to the highly secretive Club 33,” The Hollywood Reporter’s description reads. “In this case, it’s a magical and exclusive dining club that exists outside of time and space. The club’s members are the greatest and most iconic members from the past: geniuses, royalty and history-makers. When a murder is committed on the premises, the patrons look to Kim to solve it.”

The Club 33 movie is further described to be in the same vein as 1985’s Clue and 2006’s Night at the Museum, the latter of which was directed by Levy and launched a trilogy.

Club 33 first opened in California’s Disneyland Park in 1967. It was originally intended to be a VIP lounge that, for a time, was the only location in Disneyland that offered alcoholic beverages. “Over time, word quietly got out about the place, and it morphed into an elite stealth club that nevertheless operated in the open,” The Hollywood Reporter details.

There are also Club 33 locations in Tokyo Disneyland, Shanghai Disney Resorts, and Walt Disney World.

Casting for the Club 33 movie has not yet been announced and no director is currently attached to the project. A release date for the Club 33 movie has not yet been set.
