Raider: Aaron Eckhart to Play U.S. President in Con Air Director’s New Action Movie

Aaron Eckhart is headed back to the Oval Office.

Per Deadline, The Dark Knight’s Eckhart has been tapped to play the United States president in a new action movie called Raider, which is directed by Simon West. Wonder Woman’s Danny Huston also stars in the film.

“Raider tells the story of a president, sworn in after a landslide victory, who discovers that the White House has been controlled by an elite shadow organization for decades. Refusing to bow to their demands or comply with the head of the Secret Service (Danny Huston), the president works to unravel a series of cryptic messages left by his predecessors hoping they are the key to freeing his family and the country from dark forces,” Deadline’s description of the movie reads.

What else do we know about Raider?

Raider is written by J. Craig Stiles, while Kevin Human, Jeremy Christensen, and Grant Mohrman serve as co-producers. Joe Di Maio serves as an executive producer.

Production on Raider is expected to begin this fall. The film is housed at Bee Holder Productions and Concourse Media.

“Our lead is a classy and honorable man who puts country first, despite the risks and impossible odds. When he realizes what’s at stake, he simply says, ‘No.’ We’re very excited to be working with Aaron again and I can’t imagine a better fit than Simon West to bring this pulse-pounding thriller home in spades,” said Steve Lee Jones, who is producing the movie for Bee Holder.

Producer Matt Shreder added, “People have come to love seeing Aaron take control, and this elevates that to an entirely new level.”

Eckhart notably played the United States president in 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen and the 2016 sequel London Has Fallen, both of which also starred Gerard Butler. West, meanwhile, is known for directing 1997’s Con Air, 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, 2011’s The Mechanic, and 2012’s The Expendables 2.
