Red, White & Royal Blue 2 is official. A sequel to the popular Prime Video rom-com has been greenlit at Amazon MGM Studios.
Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez will reprise their roles as Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz, respectively. Matthew López, who wrote and directed the first film, will write the script for the sequel alongside Red, White & Royal Blue author Casey McQuiston.
Executive producers include Berlanti Schechter Films’ Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, along with the banner’s Michael McGrath. López and McQuiston will also executive produce. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
The announcement was made on Thursday night at a Q&A following a screening of the film at the Culver Theater.
What is Red, White & Royal Blue About?
“Based on the New York Times bestseller, Red, White & Royal Blue centers around Alex, the president’s son, and Britain’s Prince Henry, whose long-running feud threatens to drive a wedge in U.S./British relations,” Amazon’s synopsis reads. “When the rivals are forced into a staged truce, their icy relationship begins to thaw, and the friction between them sparks something deeper than they ever expected.”
Besides Galitzine and Perez, Red, White & Royal Blue’s ensemble included Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Stephen Fry, and Uma Thurman.
Released in August 2023, Red, White & Royal Blue became one of Prime Video’s top three most-watched romantic comedies of all time.
