Nicolas Cage, FKA Twigs, and more are set to star in an upcoming horror take on the childhood of Jesus, according to Deadline.
Alongside Cage and FKA Twigs, Noah Jupe and Souheila Yacoub will join the project, titled The Carpenter’s Son. The movie is set to be directed by Lofty Nathan, and will reportedly explore “the rarely told story of the childhood of Jesus with a horror take.”
Cage will play the role of the Carpenter, with FKA Twigs set to play “the Mother.” Jupe will play the “Boy,” while Yacoub will appear in an as-of-yet undisclosed role.
What else do we know about The Carpenter’s Son?
“The Carpenter’s Son tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “The son, known only as ‘the Boy’, is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension. As he exercises his own power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors, natural and divine.”
Deadline’s report notes that Nathan has taken inspiration from the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas, a gospel that tells the story of Jesus’ childhood.
Nathan’s directorial history is short, having just made his debut feature film Harka premiering in 2022. Prior to that, Nathan also directed the 2014 documentary film 12 O’Clock Boys.
