Following its theatrical release last December, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has announced the American Fiction Blu-ray release date for Orion Pictures’ critically-acclaimed dramedy. The Jeffrey Wright-led movie will be available for purchase on Blu-ray, starting on June 18.
Since its theatrical debut, the film has maintained its Certified Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and is currently holding a 93% Tomatometer score based on 282 reviews. It also earned five Oscar nominations, with director Cord Jefferson winning Best Adapted Screenplay.
What is American Fiction about?
“The film confronts our culture’s obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes. Jeffrey Wright stars as Monk, a frustrated novelist who’s fed up with the establishment profiting from ‘Black’ entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, Monk uses a pen name to write an outlandish “Black” book of his own, a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain,” reads the synopsis.
Described as a “wickedly smart satire,” American Fiction was written and directed by Cord Jefferson based on Percival Everett’s Erasure novel. The cast also includes Tracee Ellis Ross, John Ortiz, Erika Alexander, Leslie Uggams, Adam Brody, Keith David, with Issa Rae and Sterling K. Brown. It was executive produced by Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, Percival Everett, and Michael Bowes, with Jefferson, Ben LeClair, Nikos Karamigios, and Jermaine Johnson producing.
