Melissa Barrera is open to possibly starring in Scary Movie 6 following her firing from the Scream franchise.
Speaking with Inverse, Barrera commented on the possibility of joining the cast of Scary Movie 6 after Spyglass Media Group fired her from Scream 7.
“I always loved those movies,” Barrera said. “When I saw it announced, I was like, ‘Oh, that would be fun. That would be so fun to do.’”
Whether she gets the call to star in Scary Movie 6 or not, Barrera said she’s “just excited to see a new one.” She added, “They have the iconic cast that did it, so we’ll see what goes on with that.”
Barrera played Samantha Carpenter in 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI. She was supposed to reprise the role in a seventh Scream film; however, Spyglass fired her in November 2023 for supporting Palestine in regard to the Israel–Hamas war.
Jenna Ortega departed the franchise shortly after that, while director Christopher Landon left the project in December 2023. Scream 7 is now being helmed by Kevin Williamson and will see Neve Campbell return as Sidney Prescott. Courteney Cox is also in talks to reprise her role as Gale Weathers.
What do we know about Scary Movie 6?
In April 2024, Paramount announced at CinemaCon that a sixth entry in the Scary Movie franchise was being developed by Fast and Furious producer Neal H. Moritz. No casting announcements have been made for the upcoming slasher parody, meaning it is unclear whether any of the previous franchise stars — such as Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans, and Shawn Wayans — will return for the new film.
Scary Movie 6 does not have a release date at this time. Barrera, meanwhile, plays a character named Joey in Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s new vampire movie, Abigail, which opens in United States theaters on April 19, 2024.
