Lionsgate is moving forward with a Monopoly movie.
Per Variety, Margot Robbie will produce a forthcoming Monopoly movie, which will be based on the popular board game, through her production company LuckyChap.
Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara will also produce the movie via LuckyChap alongside Hasbro Entertainment.
Plot details for the film remain under wraps at this time. A director and cast have not yet been announced.
LuckyChap has a “clear point of view” for the Monopoly movie
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said that LuckyChap has “a clear point of view” on how to handle the movie when speaking at CinemaCon.
He added, “I could not imagine a better production team for this beloved and iconic brand than LuckyChap. They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care, and join Monopoly with a clear point of view. We are tremendously excited to be working with the entire LuckyChap team on what we all believe can be their next blockbuster.”
LuckyChap further said in a statement, “Monopoly is a top property — pun fully intended. Like all of the best IP, this game has resonated worldwide for generations, and we are so excited to bring this game to life alongside the wonderful teams involved at Lionsgate and Hasbro.”
“As one of the most iconic games in the world, Monopoly provides an incredible platform for storytelling opportunities,” Hasbro Entertainment’s Zev Foreman said. “We are thrilled to have the unique vision of LuckyChap and Lionsgate alongside us to bring this historic piece of popular culture to the big screen.”
LuckyChap Entertainment has been involved with a number of movies starring Robbie, including 2017’s I, Tonya, 2018’s Terminal, 2019’s Dreamland, 2020’s Birds of Prey, and 2023’s Barbie. The company also produced 2020’s Promising Young Woman and 2023’s Saltburn, among other titles.
A release date for the Monopoly movie has not yet been set.
