The Fantastic Four’s cast grew today, as the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie has found the actress that will play its version of the Silver Surfer.
Deadline has reported that Julia Garner will play Shalla-Bal — a different version of the Silver Surfer than the more commonly depicted Norrin Radd. Garner previously won an Emmy for her role as Ruth in the Netflix series Ozark and has appeared in series like The Americans and Inventing Anna as well as films like Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and The Royal Hotel.
Garner joins a start-studded cast, as Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, while Vanessa Kirby will play Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman. Stranger Things’ Joseph Quinn has the role of Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach has the part of Ben Grimm/The Thing.
Who is directing The Fantastic Four?
The Fantastic Four will be directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision) from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, who was brought in to re-write the script originally written by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. As a project in Phase Six of the MCU, The Fantastic Four is scheduled to be released on July 25, 2025.
The Fantastic Four comic debuted in 1961. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, it was the first superhero team title produced by Marvel Comics and popularized famous characters like Reed Richards, Sue Storm and Doctor Doom.
