Scarlett Johansson has reportedly been offered the lead role in Gareth Edwards’ new Jurassic World movie.
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, Johansson has the opportunity to star in the new Jurassic World movie, which is scheduled to release in 2025. Johansson has not officially accepted the offer at this time; however, according to Sneider, she’s met with Edwards and producer Frank Marshall at least once.
Johansson is known for playing Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s also starred in movies such as 2006’s The Prestige, 2013’s Under the Skin, 2013’s Her, 2014’s Lucy, 2017’s Ghost in the Shell, 2019’s Marriage Story, and 2023’s Asteroid City, among others.
She’ll soon be seen in Project Artemis, a Greg Berlanti-directed movie about the 1960s space race that also stars Channing Tatum and Ray Romano, along with Kristin Scott Thomas’ North Star. She’s additionally voicing Elita One in the upcoming Transformers One animated movie.
What do we know about the new Jurassic World movie?
In February 2025, Universal announced that a new Jurassic World movie was in the works. Deadpool 2’s David Leitch was initially eyed to direct the film; however, he stepped away from the project a few days after it was announced due to creative differences.
Edwards —known for 2014’s Godzilla, 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and 2023’s The Creator — was tapped to helm the film a few weeks later.
David Koepp, who wrote 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park, is writing the script for the new Jurassic World movie. Plot details remain under wraps at this time, though it is said to launch a “new Jurassic era” that will likely not include returning characters.
The new Jurassic World movie is expected to begin filming later this year. It’s currently scheduled to be released on July 2, 2025, from Univeral.
