Pedro Pascal says Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 is one of the most impressive sets he’s been on.
Speaking with Vanity Fair, Pascal was asked about his experience filming the upcoming sequel to 2000’s Gladiator.
“I’ve been a part of big sets where the identity of the project, in a sense, is its size—and still, I have not been on a set as impressive as Gladiator’s,” Pascal said. “Ridley [Scott] leaves very little to the imagination in the most old-fashioned sense. All the players and pieces are there on the day, and suddenly the expected challenge of believing yourself as a powerful person in the era of the Roman Empire is evaporated.”
Who stars in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 with Pedro Pascal?
It has not yet been announced who Pascal is playing in the forthcoming sequel, which is directed by Scott and written by David Scarpa.
It is known, however, that Paul Mescal is playing Lucius Verus, the son of Connie Nielsen’s Lucilla, who was played by Spencer Treat Clark in the original movie. Nielsen is also reprising her role in Gladiator 2.
The cast of Gladiator 2 also includes Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, May Calamaway, Derek Jacobi, Lior Raz, Peter Mensah, Matt Lucas, and Tim McInnerny.
Officially announced in November 2018, Gladiator 2 began filming in June 2023 but was then delayed because of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike. Production resumed in December before filming then officially wrapped on January 17, 2024.
Plot details for Gladiator 2 remain under wraps at this time. Scott is producing the movie alongside Michael Pruss, Douglas Wick, Lucy Fisher, and David Franzoni.
Gladiator 2 releases in United States theaters on November 22, 2024, from Paramount Pictures. The Russell Crowe-starring Gladiator, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Paramount+.
