Jennifer Garner is in talks to join Matt Damon in Ben Affleck’s new crime thriller, Animals.
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, Garner is currently being eyed to play Damon’s wife in Affleck’s Animals, which will be released through Netflix. An official deal has not been signed yet, though The Hollywood Reporter notes that, if it is, the movie could begin filming in Los Angeles this March.
Should the deal come together, Animals would mark the first time that Affleck directs his ex-wife in a movie. The two previously acted together in 2001’s Pearl Harbor and 2003’s Daredevil, while Affleck also had a cameo in a deleted scene featured in 2005’s Elektra.
Garner has recently starred in a number of Netflix movies, including 2021’s Yes Day, 2022’s The Adam Project, and 2023’s Family Switch. Affleck, meanwhile, previously appeared in 2019’s Triple Frontier and 2020’s The Last Thing He Wanted for the streaming service.
Garner is also known for starring in ABC’s Alias, along with films such as 2002’s Catch Me If You Can, 2004’s 13 Going on 30, 2007’s Juno, 2009’s Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, 2012’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green, and more.
What do we know about Ben Affleck’s Animals?
Animals is written by Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray. Affleck and Damon, who have previously worked together on a number of films (the most recent being 2023’s Air), are producing the movie with Dani Bernfeld, Brad Weston, and Collin Creighton.
“The crime thriller concerns a mayoral candidate and his wife whose son is kidnapped,” The Hollywood Reporter’s description of Animals reads. “Surrounded by plenty of enemies, political and otherwise, the husband and wife have no choice but to get their hands dirty in order to save their son.”
Netflix has not yet set an official release date for the Ben Affleck-directed Animals.
