Adam Sandler and Josh Safdie are partnering together once again, this time on Sandler’s next comedy special for Netflix. According to a recent report from The Insneider, Sandler and Safdie are teaming up to create the follow-up to Sandler’s 2018 stand-up film, Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh.
The pair infamously came together alongside Josh’s brother Benny Safdie for 2019’s Uncut Gems, which garnered massive praise for Sandler’s performance. Alongside the comedy special, Sandler was also set to star in Safdie’s newest film alongside Ben Affleck and Megan Thee Stallion, although the film has since been delayed by both the SAG and WGA strikes with no further updates available.
What is Sandler and Safdie’s next movie project about?
The untitled project will be directed by Josh Safdie from a screenplay he co-wrote with brother Benny Safdie. This marks Josh Safdie’s second solo directorial feature following his “temporary” split from Benny Safdie.
It’s currently unclear if their rumored split was also one of the reasons for the Netflix film’s recent delay. Before the Safdie brothers gained recognition for their works on Good Time and Uncut Gems, Josh Safdie first made his directorial debut in 2008’s The Pleasure of Being Robbed movie.
Besides Sandler, the project will also reportedly feature an all-star ensemble cast including Ben Affleck, Megan Thee Stallion, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Steve Harvey.
“Set in the world of high-end sports card collecting in the 1990s, a retired Baseball pitcher (Affleck) attempts a comeback as a sports memorabilia agent (Sandler) attempts to capitalize on his success,” reads the synopsis. “Megan Thee Stallion is said to play Affleck’s girlfriend.”
