A new Predator movie is in the works at 20th Century Studios, with a familiar director revealed alongside the film‘s title.
The Hollywood Reporter‘s Borys Kit has reported that the upcoming sci-fi action movie will be titled Badlands. Prey director Dan Trachtenberg will be directing the upcoming film, though it is not considered a sequel to Prey. Production is planned to begin in July.
Plot details are scarce at this time, but Badlands will take place “sometime in the future” and, like Prey, will be led by a female character. The screenplay was written by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison, as was the case with Prey. Apparently Badlands isn’t the only Predator project being worked on, as several new projects are being planned for the franchise.
Prey was released on Hulu in 2022 and served as a prequel to the Predator franchise. It starred Amber Midthunder as Naru, a young Comanche woman who goes toe-to-toe against a Predator. While the exact popularity of the film is unknown due to it being released on a streaming platform, the film was praised by both critics and audiences.
What was Prey about?
“Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, Prey is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior,” reads the movie‘s synopsis. “She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.”
