Bob Odenkirk has signed on to star in Normal, an action film from John Wick writer Derek Kolstad (via Deadline). Ben Wheatley, who helmed Meg 2: The Trench, is on board to direct. Odenkirk, Kolstad, and Marc Provissiero will produce. WME Independent will launch sales at the upcoming European film market next week.
It’s an action reunion for Odenkirk and Kolstad, who collaborated on 2021’s Nobody. Odenkirk starred as a former assassin forced back into the underworld to save his family from a dangerous crime lord. Kolstad penned the script for Nobody. The film was a surprise hit, grossing over $57 million worldwide on a $15 million budget.
What to Expect in Normal?
“Normal follows Ulysses (Odenkirk), who is thrust into the temporary role of the sheriff for the small sleepy town Normal after the previous one’s untimely death,” the official synopsis reads. “When the town’s bank is robbed by an out-of-town couple, Ulysses arrives on the scene to find that the town is hiding much more sinister deep-seated secrets under its surface and everyone – from the bartender to the priest – is in on it. And now Ulysses, who’s up-till-now focused only on running away from the demons of his past, must uncover the full extent of this criminal conspiracy.”
Odenkirk is best known for playing crooked lawyer Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. For his portrayal of Goodman, Odenkirk received six Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. In 2023, Odenkirk headlined Lucky Hank for AMC and guest starred in The Bear Season 2.
Kolstad rose to prominence as the screenwriter for the first three John Wick films. Kolstad served as a writer on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and co-created Die Hart.
