According to Deadline, Harry Potter vet Ralph Fiennes is set to direct and star in the upcoming UK-set drama film titled, The Beacon.
The Oscar-nominated star will be joined by Game of Thrones alum Indira Varma, The Outlaw’s Charles Babalola and Saltburn’s Alison Oliver, who have been tapped for major roles in the project. Production is expected to start sometime this summer in Suffolk, England.
What to expect in The Beacon?
Fiennes will be directing The Beacon from a screenplay he also wrote. This marks the acclaimed actor’s first directorial project in a long while, following 2018’s biographical drama The White Crow. He also previously helmed 2011’s Coriolanus and 2013’s The Invisible Woman. The film hails from A Potboiler Productions, with Gail Egan producing.
“In the film, Joshua Nyaga travels to the countryside from London to spend a summer’s weekend with his girlfriend Cass’ family for the first time. Transplanted as a young boy from the violence of the Ugandan civil war to the concrete jungle of London, Joshua has never experienced the privilege that Cass’ family enjoy,” reads the synopsis.
“Surrounded by the sea and lush natural landscape, the farm is an oasis, brimming with idealistic notions and lively debate amongst Cass’ father, stepmother and their longtime friend of the family, Michael. But Joshua’s warm welcome is short lived, when a sudden act of violent racism at a local summer concert shatters the peace forcing Joshua and those around him to confront the uncomfortable truth of their differences.”
