The Coen Brothers are reportedly set to team up for the first time since 2018 to create a horror movie described as ”very bloody” and ”horribly funny” by Ethan Coen.
Coen Brothers Going Back for Blood
Ethan was speaking at a Master Class “in conversation” with film critic Kaleem Aftab in Tromso, Norway, that also featured Tricia Cooke. It is there that he confirmed he and brother Joel have already written a script for a horror movie that Ethan said is ”a pure horror film, and it gets very bloody. If you like Blood Simple, I think you’ll enjoy it.”
Having last worked as a directorial duo with The Ballad of Buster Scruggs before venturing on solo projects, the reunion of the brothers behind classics such as Blood Simple, Fargo, No Country for Old Men, and The Big Lebowski has been a highly-anticipated event. Fans hearing it will be a horror movie that evokes Blood Simple will undoubtedly be ecstatic.
Ethan does go on to note that while preparation for the film is done, they may have to wait for Joel to finish another project first before entering production.
In the meantime, Ethan Coen’s latest solo outing is set to be released next month, In Drive Away Dolls, Jamie, an uninhibited free spirit bemoaning yet another breakup with a girlfriend, and her demure friend Marian desperately needs to loosen up. In search of a fresh start, the two embark on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, but things quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way.
Drive Away Dolls stars Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Death Stranding), Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart, Lady Bird), Geraldine Viswanathan (Blockers, Thunderbolts), Colman Domingo (If Beale Street Could Talk, Candyman), Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian), and Matt Damon (The Martian, Oppenheimer).
Drive Away Dolls is out in theaters on February 23, 2024.
