Hot Fuzz’s Nick Frost is joining the cast of the live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Frost will play the live-action version of Gobber the Belch, a close friend of Hiccup’s father who was voiced by Chris Edgerly in the animated movies.
Frost joins Mason Thames (The Black Phone, For All Mankind) and Nico Parker (The Last of Us, The Third Day), who will play Hiccup and Astrid, in the upcoming film from Universal Pictures. Gerard Butler will also play a live-action version of his character from the animated movies, Stoick the Vast, who is the leader of the Viking village and Hiccup’s father.

The film is being directed by Dean DeBlois, who directed the three animated How to Train Your Dragon movies for DreamWorks Animations, including 2010’s How to Train Your Dragon, 2014’s How to Train Your Dragon 2, and 2019’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
DeBlois also wrote the script for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake. Additionally, he produces the movie alongside Marc Platt and Adam Siegel.
Frost is best known for starring alongside Simon Pegg in a number of Edgar Wright comedies, including 2004’s Shaun of the Dead, 2007’s Hot Fuzz, and 2013’s The World’s End. He also co-wrote and co-starred in 2011’s Paul alongside Pegg, while he’s additionally appeared in movies such as 2011’s Attack the Block, 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman, and 2019’s Fighting with My Family.
Originally intended to come out in March 2024 but pushed back because of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, the live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake now releases in the United States on June 13, 2025, from Universal Pictures.
