Zac Efron Reflects on High School Musical: ‘One of the Most Fun Experiences of My Life’

Zac Efron rose to superstardom in Disney‘s High School Musical, a role that he says remains one of the most fun he’s ever had on set.

During a recent appearance in a video for Variety guessing his lines, Efron spoke briefly about High School Musical. According to Efron, the “magical” coming together of everyone was something that just felt right at the time, and led to him having some of the most fun he’s ever had.

“The cast and the group of people making that movie was just magical,” Efron said. “There’s a time and a place for everything, and everything happens for a reason, and High School Musical is a prime example of that. I’ve never had so much fun…maybe a few times, but it was still, to this day, maybe one of the most fun experiences of my life, and it just shows on camera.”

Originally released in 2006 on the Disney Channel, High School Musical starred Efron alongside Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Alyson Reed, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman. The film was an instant smash hit, breaking the record for the highest premiere on the Disney Channel at the time.

The film’s soundtrack was also a commercial success, reaching the top of the Billboard 200. Two sequels were made, and a spin-off series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, also ran for four seasons on Disney+.
