The Millie Bobby Brown-starring Damsel is coming to Netflix in March 2024.
Netflix has announced that Damsel, the upcoming sci-fi fantasy epic starring Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown as Princess Elodie, will officially begin streaming on March 8, 2024.
Netflix also dropped new key poster art for Damsel, which can be viewed below. The poster features an up-close look at Brown’s face and also includes the reflection of a dragon hidden within her eye.
What is Damsel about?
“A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt,” the official synopsis reads. “Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.”
Damsel (not to be confused with the 2018 Robert Pattinson and Mia Wasikowska film of the same name) is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who previously directed 2007’s 28 Weeks Later and 2011’s Intruders.
Along with Brown, Damsel stars Angela Bassett as Lady Bayford, Robin Wright as Queen Isabelle, Ray Winstone as the King, Nick Robinson as Prince Henry, and Brooke Carter as Floria. Shohreh Aghdashloo is also playing an undisclosed role.
With a script written by Dan Mazeau (Fast X, Wrath of the Titans), Damsel is produced by Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Chris Castaldi, while Emily Wolfe serves as a co-producer. Executive producers include Brown Sue Baden-Powel, Zack Roth, Robert Brown, Dan Mazeau, and Mark Bomback.
“What I really loved in the script from Dan Mazeau was embracing the idea of a fantasy adventure and a princess and dragon story, but taking it into a place [where] it’s completely upside down,” Fresnadillo previously told Tudum about the movie. “It was a very intense journey that I was so excited to design and to develop. At the core, this is such a beautiful story about a young woman becoming a strong, independent, and empowered adult. Elodie doesn’t have any kind of support. It’s a real survival experience.”
Damsel releases on Netflix on March 8, 2024.
