Tom Holland hasn’t ruled out stepping back into the suit of Spider-Man, but it would have to be for something that’s worth it.
During a recent appearance at a press conference with the Critics Choice Association (via Collider), Holland was asked if he would be reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in any future Marvel Cinematic Universe films. He revealed that he has been in conversation with Marvel, but a fourth Spider-Man movie has to be worthwhile of Spider-Man to do.
“All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character,” Holland said. “Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing. I feel very protective over Spider-Man. I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy. So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.”
Future Spider-Man movies remain shrouded in mystery
Throughout the past few years, reports and rumors began circulating that a new Spider-Man movie starring Holland could be coming as soon as 2024, although that will not be happening now. Further rumors have suggested that Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again will play a significant role in future Spider-Man films.
In September 2021, Holland told GQ that he doesn’t want to play Spider-Man after he turns 30 (Holland is currently 27), saying that means he’s “done something wrong” if that ends up happening. “Maybe it is time for me to move on. Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life,” Holland said.
In March 2023, however, producer Amy Pascal said that a fourth Spider-Man movie with Holland and Zendaya was still definitely happening. “Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are,” she said, via Variety. “We’re in the process, but the writers strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started.”
