A new Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie photo has been revealed by Paramount, giving fans their first look at Sonic’s iconic rival in the sequel — Shadow the Hedgehog.
A tweet from the official Sonic movie Twitter account revealed the photo, which shows Shadow the Hedgehog from the chest down next to a clapperboard for the upcoming video game adaptation sequel. The clapperboard features the logo for the movie, which appears to be a callback to Sonic Adventure 2’s logo, with Sonic’s “Spin Dash” shape on top of the text and Shadow’s mirrored below.
The post features the caption: “Off and RUNNING. #SonicMovie 3. Only in theatres December 20, 2024.”

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be directed by Jeff Fowler and written by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington. Ben Schwartz is set to reprise his role as Sonic the Hedgehog. Details on the plot are sparse, but it will feature Shadow the Hedgehog — Sonic’s speedy rival who first appeared in the 2001 Sega Dreamcast game Sonic Adventure 2.
Does Sonic the Hedgehog 3 have the same director as the second movie?
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was also directed by Jeff Fowler, who made his feature directorial debut on the hit predecessor. The film earned a worldwide gross of over $400 million at the box office against a reported $90-110 million budget.
In addition to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Paramount Pictures is also currently developing a spin-off series centered around Elba’s Knuckles, which will debut on Paramount+.
