Jennifer Lee has provided an update about Frozen 3 and Frozen 4.
Speaking with The Walt Disney Company, Lee, who co-directed 2013’s Frozen and 2019’s Frozen II with Chris Buck, provided an update about the next installments in the popular franchise.
“Only what we have already shared, which is the team is hard at work, we are deeply excited about the story we are shaping together, and it’s so epic it may not fit into just one film,” she said when asked if she could reveal anything about Frozen 3.
Bob Iger recently announced that Frozen 4 was happening
On November 16, 2023, Disney CEO announced on Good Morning America that Frozen 4 would be coming after Frozen 3, neither of which have an official release date at this time.
“Frozen 3 is in the works, and there might be a Frozen 4 in the works too,” Iger said at the time, via Variety. “But I don’t have much to say about those films right now. [Director] Jenn Lee, who created the original Frozen and Frozen 2, is hard at work with her team at Disney animation on not one but actually two stories.”
Regarding what makes Frozen such a popular franchise, Lee suggested, “I believe it’s both the story of familial love with these two sisters, and the idea of love conquering fear. I recently visited World of Frozen, and it is awe-inspiring. You are a citizen of Arendelle the moment you walk into the land.”
Disney’s first Frozen movie slid its way into theaters in November 2013. It quickly became a huge box office hit, bringing in $1.280 billion at the global box office off a budget of $150 million. The sequel, Frozen II, followed in November 2019 and made even more of a profit, $1.453 billion off a $150 million budget.
Frozen and Frozen II are both currently streaming on Disney+.
