Prime Video has released a behind-the-scenes featurette for Foe, which stars Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan as a married couple stuck in an uncertain, grim world. Along with the newly released clip, the streamer also announced that the psychological sci-fi film will start streaming on January 5, 2024.
In the clip, Mescal and Ronan share details about the characters they played. The featurette also features an interview with the film’s director, Garth Davis (Mary Magdalene).
A psychological thriller about the nature of humanity
Based on Iain Reid’s novel of the same name, the film centers on husband and wife as they slowly find their quiet lives changing before their eyes when Terrance (an uninvited stranger played by Aaron Pierre) suddenly shows up with an unsettling proposal.
Having spent their married life in a secluded location, which is barely surviving due to the current climate, the married couple have to make a decision that would either jeopardize their relationship or strip them of their personal identity in order to survive.
“Hen & Junior’s quiet life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger shows up at their door with a startling proposal,” the synopsis reads. “Foe’s mesmerizing imagery and persistent questions about the nature of humanity (and artificial humanity) bring the not-too-distant future to luminous life.”
The film had its New York International Film Festival premiere back on September 30 and was released in U.S. theaters on October 6, 2023.
Both Mescal and Ronan — dubbed as this generation’s finest actors — have starred in several critically acclaimed flicks, with the former appearing in God’s Creatures, The Lost Daughter, All of Us Strangers, and the critical darling Aftersun. He will also star in the upcoming Gladiator sequel, directed by Ridley Scott. On the other hand, Ronan is a four-time Oscar nominee, with significant roles in Atonement, Lady Bird, Little Women, and See How They Run.
The Mescal and Ronan-led film will be streaming on Prime Video on January 5, 2024. You can watch the trailer below.
