SAG-AFTRA Strike Update: AMPTP Agrees To Adjust Language Regarding AI

As the SAG-AFTRA strike continues onward, the AMPTP has agreed to change its language in regards to the use of AI.

Variety has reported that, following the most recent meeting between union organizers and the AMPTP that took place last night, the major studios have “agreed to adjust language on artificial intelligence.” This is in an effort to move the strike closer to a conclusion, as it’s gone on for 117 days.

This topic has been a major sticking point in the negotiations between the two, with SAG noting last night that AI was one of the points that was still being debated after the AMPTP’s recent “last and final offer.” SAG-AFTRA is set to meet with the union’s negotiating committee this afternoon to see if this adjusted AI language will be enough to bring the two parties to an agreement.

When did the SAG-AFTRA strike of 2023 begin?

The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike began on Friday, July 14, 2023. It began while the Writers Guild of America was concurrently striking, though the WGA strike ended fairly recently on Wednesday, September 27. This SAG-AFTRA strike has been the longest in the guild’s history and served as the first time SAG-AFTRA and the WGA struck at the same time since 1960.
