Director Shawn Levy has provided an update on the upcoming Deadpool 3.
Levy told Deadline that 20th Century and Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3, which is currently scheduled to release in May 2024, was about halfway through filming when production halted due to the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, which began in July 2023
“Well, like the rest of our industry, or at least large swath of it, we’re paused,” he said. “We’re halfway through filming Deadpool, co-starring Wolverine. It was a joy every day and that chemistry is as relentless as we all hoped it would be.”
Levy added, “Our crew and the rest of us are awaiting a fair and equitable deal that ends these strikes and puts this industry, inclusive of our movie, back at work.”
Deadpool 3 is a ‘descendant’ of Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Speaking on what fans can expect from Deadpool 3, Levy teased, “Our movie is raw, audacious, very much R-rated and we went to great lengths to not shoot it on sound stages with digital environments.”
“We wanted something that felt, grounded, real…You put Hugh Jackman in his most iconic character alongside Ryan Reynolds in his most iconic character; it’s more of a descendant of Midnight Run, and 48 Hours, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles more than it’s a descendant of Airplane,” Levy said.
Joining Jackman and Reynolds in Deadpool 3 are Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios. Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen have also been cast in undisclosed roles, while actors such as Liev Schreiber, Daniel Radcliffe, and more are also rumored to appear.
Deadpool 3 is currently scheduled to release theatrically in the United States on May 3, 2024.
