The Black Demon 2 Being Discussed After Impressive Prime Video Debut

One of the streaming success stories of the year belongs to The Black Demon. Released in theaters on April 28, the shark movie with a Latino influence has been a surprise hit with Prime Video audiences. Debuting on August 22, The Black Demon occupied the number-one spot on Prime Video’s Top 10 for a week and currently ranks third. Due to the film’s overwhelming success, The Black Demon 2 is being discussed.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, The Black Demon producers said there have been talks about a potential sequel. However, no deals are being made because of the ongoing Hollywood strikes. Javier Chapa, one of the film’s producers through Mucho Mas Media, explained the importance of The Black Demon’s Latino influence.

“No one has ever seen a genre shark movie with a Latino bent,” Chapa said. “That’s where we saw the opportunity, given our company’s ethos is all about really supporting people of color on both sides of the camera — but also filling a highly underserved need in our community.”

Who is Involved in The Black Demon?

Josh Lucas stars as Paul Sturges, an oil inspector sent to a Mexican town to inspect an offshore oil rig. While at the rig, Paul and his family face off against a violent megalodon shark who threatens their livelihood. Fernanda Urrejola, Venus Ariel, Carlos Solórzano, and Julio Cesar Cedillo star alongside Lucas.

“Josh Lucas stars in this edge-of-your-seat action thriller from the director of Rambo: Last Blood,” reads the movie’s synopsis. “Oilman Paul Sturges’ (Lucas) idyllic family vacation turns into a nightmare when they encounter a ferocious megalodon shark that will stop at nothing to protect its territory. Stranded and under constant attack, Paul and his family must somehow find a way to get his family back to shore alive before it strikes again in this epic battle between humans and nature.”

The Black Demon is a shark film directed by Adrian Grünberg from a screenplay by Boise Esquerra. Producers include Chapa, Jon Silk, Arianne Fraser, and Delphine Perrier. The Black Demon is now streaming on Prime Video.
