Barbie has surpassed The Dark Knight as Warner Bros’ highest-grossing domestic release.
Greta Gerwig‘s new fantasy comedy movie Barbie stars Margot Robbie as the titular character and Ryan Gosling as Ken. This film was famously released in competition with Christopher Nolan’s new movie Oppenheimer. Both movies were vastly successful at the box office, but Barbie came out on top. Gerwig’s new movie has now surpassed another of Nolan’s films.

According to Variety, Barbie has now grossed $537.5 million in the United States. This surpasses Nolan’s famous 2008 superhero movie The Dark Knight, which grossed $536 million in its theatrical domestic run. This makes Barbie the highest-grossing domestic release in Warner Bros. history.
The movie is on track to surpass The Super Mario Bros. Movie as the domestic highest-grossing film of the year. It became the fastest Warner Bros. movie to reach the $1 billion club. For Gerwig and Robbie, life in plastic is fantastic.
