The partnership between Cillian Murphy and Christopher Nolan has lasted nearly two decades, beginning in 2005 with Batman Begins. Oppenheimer, with Murphy starring as the titular J. Robert Oppenheimer, marks the sixth collaboration between Murphy and Nolan. Despite their frequent alliance, there is one movie Nolan movie that Murphy wishes he appeared in.
What Christopher Nolan Movie Did Cillian Murphy Want to Be in?
While speaking with The Independent, Murphy was asked which Nolan film he would have liked to be in. The Irish actor cited Nolan’s space epic as the one he wanted to be in.
“I adore Interstellar just because I find it so emotional,” Murphy said. “I remember seeing it in the cinema when I had little kids. It just had a big impact on me. It broke my heart. I love watching his films when I’m not in them because you don’t have to freak out about the size of your ears, or whatever.”
Murphy was also asked to pair another Nolan film with Oppenheimer as a double feature. One of his selections was considered Nolan’s World War II masterpiece before the release of Oppenheimer.
“You could go Interstellar, which is very… explores similar scientific, physic themes,” Murphy added. “Or you could watch Dunkirk, which is also set in World War II. Dunkirk is shorter, so that might be a good match ‘cause it’s like an hour-and-a-half, and then you can go into [Oppenheimer].”
Oppenheimer continues to show legs at the box office as it recently passed $266 million domestically and $650 million worldwide. Oppenheimer is now Nolan’s fifth-highest-grossing film of all time as it sets its sights on potentially passing Interstellar ($773 million) and Inception ($870 million).
