According to Deadline, Sony Pictures Classics has officially set the Strange Way of Life release date for Pedro Almodóvar’s neo-western romantic drama. Following its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, the short film will be having its theatrical release on October 6. Before its wide release, it will first arrive in select theaters in New York City and Los Angeles on October 4.
What is Strange Way of Life about?
“A man rides a horse across the desert that separates him from Bitter Creek. He comes to visit Sheriff Jake,” reads the synopsis. “Twenty-five years earlier, both the sheriff and Silva, the rancher who rides out to meet him, worked together as hired gunmen. Silva visits him with the excuse of reuniting with his friend from his youth, and they do indeed celebrate their meeting, but the next morning Sheriff Jake tells him that the reason for his trip is not to go down the memory lane of their old friendship.”
Strange Way of Life is written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar. The film stars Pedro Pascal as Silva, Ethan Hawke as Jake, Pedro Casablanc as a carpenter, Manu Ríos as a singer, George Steane as Joe, José Condessa as young Silva, Jason Fernández as young Jake, Sara Sálamo as Conchita, Ohiana Cueto as Calixta, and Daniela Medina as Patricia.
The film is produced by Agustín Almodóvar, Bárbara Peiró, Diego Pajuelo, and Anthony Vaccarello, with Esther García executive producing.
