In 2021, Mattel announced a Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots movie starring Vin Diesel. Now, a small update on the project has been made.
What do we know about the Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots movie?
Speaking to Variety about all of its upcoming projects, Robbie Brenner — who runs Mattel Films and most recently produced Barbie — mentioned the film, saying that Diesel is “excited” about the project and a script is currently being developed.
“Vin is excited,” Brenner said. “We’re working on developing a script and we’re all very excited about it.”
As it stands, not too much is known about the project, other than the fact that Diesel will star in the film and screenwriter Ryan Engle will be working on the script. Universal is set to produce the project, but it’s unknown when more information will become available.
Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots is just of many films in the works from Mattel’s intellectual property. The company is also working on making an “off-kilter” Barney movie starring Daniel Kaluuya, as well as a Hot Wheels film that is set to be produced by J.J. Abrams. Other films in the works, according to Variety’s profile, include movies based on Polly Pocket, the American Girl dolls, Magic 8 Ball, Masters of the Universe, and even a film based on the card game UNO.
Currently, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots has no release information.
