Watchmen and Crisis On Infinite Earths Animated Movies Announced

DC has announced that it will be turning two of its biggest stories ever into animated movies, with the company revealing that a Watchmen and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths movie is in the works.

What do we know about the new DC Animated movies?

Following a screening of Justice League: Warworld at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, DC took to social media to announce the news. DC didn’t release too much information about either project, but it has been reported that the Watchmen movie will be rated R.

Two teaser images for the films were also shared, showing just their titles as of now, which you can see below:

Crisis on Infinite Earths is one of DC’s most iconic stories and revolves around a cosmic entity known as the Anti-Monitor that seeks to destroy every universe within the DC multiverse. This forces the heroes of numerous worlds to come together and do whatever they can to stop the Anti-Monitor and save the multiverse.

Since its release in 1985, it’s often been heralded as the story that popularized major crossovers in comics and was recently the inspiration for the live-action Crisis on Infinite Earths event in The CW’s Arrowverse.

Watchmen is also another iconic graphic novel from DC, which itself has been adapted into a handful of already successful versions. Watchmen tells the story of a group of vigilante heroes in an alternate reality that mirrors the 1980s. Most recently, an HBO sequel series from Damon Lindelof was released in 2019 and won 11 Primetime Emmy Awards. A 2009 film from Zack Snyder was divisive at its release but has since been seen as one of the most faithful adaptations of a comic to film.
