Mortal Kombat 1’s new roster additions and comic book character-filled DLC lineup were not the only pieces of Mortal Kombat news to come out of Comic-Con. The next animated film in the franchise also got a new trailer, which revealed the Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match release date.
When is Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match coming out?
Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match is releasing on digital and physical storefronts on October 17. The Blu-ray will be $29.99, while the 4K Blu-ray (both of which come with a digital version) will be $39.99. Pre-orders for physical copies begin on July 22.
The special features include a featurette called What Would Johnny Cage Do? that has Joel McHale and Jennifer Grey talking to the creators to learn more about the film. There’s also a trailer for Cage’s film series Ninja Mime, a long-running joke in the Mortal Kombat games. There’s also audio commentary from producers Rick Morales and Jim Krieg and screenwriter Jeremy Adams.
Cage Match focuses on Johnny Cage, who is once again voiced by Community star Joel McHale. While a previously released synopsis explained the general plot, this latest trailer goes a little more into that journey and how a bullied kid became a movie star that stumbled his way into fighting evil during the 1980s.
Aside from McHale, the rest of the cast includes Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing) as herself, Dusan Brown (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) as Chuck Golden, Grey DeLisle (Teen Titans Go!) as Kia, Robin Atkin Downes (Luck) as Shinnok, Zehra Fazal (Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe) as Jataaka, Gilbert Gottfried (Aladdin) as David Doubldy, Kelly Hu (X2: X-Men United) as Ashrah, Matt Yang King (Elemental) as Concierge, Phil LaMarr (Futurama) as Brian Van Jones, Matthew Mercer (Resident Evil: Death Island) as Director/Bully, Dave B. Mitchell (Call of Duty franchise) as Raiden, and Armen Taylor (Justice Society: World War II) as Master Boyd.
Ethan Spaulding is back as director, while Jeremy Adams, writer of the last three entries, is once again the screenwriter. Rick Morales, director of Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind, will be supervising producer. President of Warner Bros. Animation Sam Register and Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon are executive producers. This is also the fourth animated Mortal Kombat movie in the annualized Legends series, as the trend started with Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge in 2020.
