20th Century Studios has welcomed the addition of three new actors to the Amateur cast, which is being led by Oscar winner Rami Malek. According to Deadline, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Laurence Fishburne (John Wick films), and Caitríona Balfe (Outlander) have been cast in the upcoming thriller-drama.
What to Expect in Amateur?
Amateur will be directed by James Hawes (Slow Horses) from a screenplay written by Ken Nolan. In addition to starring, the Bohemian Rhapsody actor has also signed on as an executive producer, with Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson producing.
“The film follows a CIA cryptographer who, after his wife is tragically killed in a London terrorist attack, demands his bosses go after them,” reads the synopss. “When it becomes clear they won’t act due to conflicting internal priorities, he blackmails the agency into training him and letting him go after them himself.”
Brosnahan is currently starring in the final season of her award-winning Prime Video comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She made headlines earlier this week, after reports pegged her as a potential Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.
As for Fishburne, the Oscar-nominated actor recently reprise his role in the blockbuster movie John Wick: Chapter 4, which once again reunited him with The Matrix co-star Keanu Reeves. Meanwhile, this marks Balfe’s first movie project after starring in Kenneth Branagh’s acclaimed Belfast movie.
