Following the official confirmation of Jenna Ortega’s casting, Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice 2 cast is welcoming two more actors to its roster.
According to Deadline, Justin Theroux (White House Plumbers) has been tapped to join the long-awaited sequel to 1988’s dark comedy, which will feature Michael Keaton reprising the titular role.
In addition, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that The Matrix alum Monica Bellucci is also currently in talks to join the high-profile project. Bellucci is set to play the titular ghost’s wife. Besides Keaton, Winona Ryder (Stranger Things) and Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek) are also expected to return to the Beetlejuice 2 cast as Lydia and Delia Deetz in the sequel.
What to Expect in Beetlejuice 2?
Beetlejuice 2 will once again be directed by Tim Burton. This would mark Burton’s feature directorial comeback in four years after helming Disney’s live-action Dumbo. After initially working together in Netflix’s Wednesday series, Scream VI star Jenna Ortega is reuniting with Burton as she lands the leading role in the sequel. The rising actress will be playing the daughter of Ryder’s Lydia Deetz.
The project has been in development for more than three decades now, with Burton initially planning to set the sequel in Hawaii. Further details about the new plot for the project’s latest iteration are still being kept under wraps.
Beetlejuice starred Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones, Alec Baldwin, and Geena Davis. The film centered around a deceased married couple who called on the services of the obnoxious and mischievous poltergeist from the Netherworld to scare away the new residents of their former home. Since its debut, it earned both critical and commercial success with a box office gross of over $73 million. Due to its success and pop culture influence, it went on to spawn an animated series, video games, and a stage musical.
Beetlejuice 2 is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 6, 2024.
