More information on Dwayne Johnson’s role in the DC Universe is coming to light, as a new report from The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez reveals that the actor also declined a chance to appear in another DC property.
According to Gonzalez in a recent tweet, when The Flash was originally going through filming, 7 Bucks Production — which Johnson co-founded alongside his manager Dany Garcia — President Hiram Garcia was approached about Johnson appearing in the film in a cameo as Black Adam. Gonzalez notes that Garcia “politely declined” the opportunity, however, meaning the new member of the DC Universe will not be in the upcoming film.
This news comes following a report that Johnson also turned down a chance to appear in the upcoming Shazam! sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Johnson’s Black Adam was also in the news recently after the actor confirmed that a Black Adam sequel would not be moving forward at this time, as James Gunn and Peter Safran continue their overhaul of the DC Universe. While Johnson did note that opportunities for Black Adam to appear in future films would arise, it’s unclear exactly when that will be.
The next DCU release will be Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which releases March 17, 2023. It will be followed by The Flash, starring the troubled Ezra Miller, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The future afterward is currently uncertain as Gunn and Safran decide upon their 10-year plan for the DCU.
