CAPTAIN AMERICA VS. MARIA HILL
Captain America: The Winter Soldier already gave us Cap’s battle with S.H.I.E.L.D., so it’s no longer remarkable to see Captain America on the run from his former employer. But what we haven’t seen is Steve Rogers taking on one of his closest allies: Maria Hill.
The Maria Hill of the Marvel Cinematic Universe–as played by Cobie Smulders–is a lot less antagonistic than her comic book counterpart. In Civil War, Maria Hill was the acting director of S.H.I.E.L.D. who overstepped her bounds by attempting to arrest Captain America for defying the Superhuman Registration Act… before it became law. She wanted Cap to help S.H.I.E.L.D. hunt down heroes who wouldn’t sign up and he just wasn’t having it.
At the end of “The Winter Soldier,” Hill became one of Tony Stark’s new employees; which leaves little doubt as to which side she’ll be on in Captain America: Civil War. If Smulders returns for that movie, a conflict between Hill and Captain America seems to be inevitable.
