Bewitching “Game of Thrones” actress Natalie Dormer is set to headline the supernatural thriller titled The Forest for commercial director Jason Zada, based on an original idea by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight).
Originally announced in 2012, The Forest is set in the legendary Aokigahara forest at the base of Mt. Fuji, where a young American woman named Sara (Dormer) goes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite warnings to “stay on the path,” Sara has to contend with the angry and tormented souls of the dead who prey on those who wander the forest.
Produced by Goyer, Lava Bear Films and Phantom Four, The Forest is written by Sarah Cornwell and Nick Antosca, based on Goyer’s treatment. Focus Features acquired North American distribution rights to the film earlier this year and plans to release the film on January 8, 2016.
Dormer, who will next be seen on November 21 as Cressida in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (as well as 2015’s Part 2), is also poised to star in Patient Zero, another thriller which will begin filming shortly. She is also presumed to continue her role as Margaery Tyrell on “Game of Thrones.”
