Sony Pictures has revealed that they will be making a brand new film in the Karate Kid franchise, which is currently slated to release theatrically on June 7, 2024.

The film is described as the “return of the original Karate Kid franchise” to theaters — marking the upcoming movie as the first theatrically released Karate Kid picture since 2010’s reboot that starred Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.
No synopsis, casting announcements, or further details have been provided yet for the film beyond its release date and theatrical status. This move doesn’t come as a major surprise given the immense popularity of Netflix’s Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai, which just recently released its fifth season on the streaming service.

Though 2010’s Karate Kid reboot received a mixed reception from critics and fans, it made nearly $400 million at the box office. With the franchise’s renewed popularity from Cobra Kai, this could be the ideal time to bring The Karate Kid series back to the big screen.
