According to Deadline, Billy Magnussen (Game Night) has been tapped to join Netflix’s forthcoming Spy Kids reboot film, which hails from franchise creator Robert Rodriguez who’s returning to once again direct the newest installment. Magnussen will be joining previously announced cast members Zachary Levi, Gina Rodriguez, Everly Carganilla, and newcomer Connor Esterson.
Magnussen has appeared in a few high-profile films including Into the Woods, Bridge of Spies, The Big Short, Aladdin, and No Time to Die. In addition to the new Spy Kids film, he will also next be seen in Netflix’s heist film Lift starring Kevin Hart.

The Spy Kids reboot will be produced and directed by Robert Rodriguez from a screenplay he is co-writing with Racer Max, who will also be producing. The project hails from Netflix, Skydance, and Spyglass.
The film will be “set after the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful game developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, leading them to become spies themselves to save their parents and the world,” according to the synopsis.
Producers are David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger, who are set to oversee the development and production of the project on behalf of Skydance. It will be executive produced by Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre, with Elizabeth Avellan producing.

Levi is best known for his superhero role in DC Films’ Shazam!, which grossed $365 million at the worldwide box office. He will next be seen in The Unbreakable Boy, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, and the highly-anticipated Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
Rodriguez gained recognition for her leading performance in The CW’s Jane the Virgin which ran for five seasons from 2014-2019. This earned her her first Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy.
