Voiced by Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore, The Darjeeling Limited), the Spot uses interdimensional portals spread over his body to manipulate his foes’ attacks. The Spot first appeared in Spectacular Spider-Man #97 and was created by Al Milgrom and Herb Trimpe. He’s appeared in different shows like Spider-Man: The Animated Series and 2017’s Spider-Man show, but this is the villain’s first major appearance in a film. You can see his design in the image below:
“For those who are not hardcore canon nerds, The Spot is one of the deepest cuts in Spider-Man’s rogue gallery,” co-director Kemp Powers clarified. “But he has a super-power that really excited our entire team: His entire body is covered in little interdimensional portals that can send him anywhere he wants to go.”
It was announced in April that Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson will serve as the film’s trio of directors. Lord, Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Christina Steinberg are all returning to produce the Sony Pictures project, with Alonzo Ruvalcaba co-producing. The original Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey will executive produce, along with Aditya Sood.
