According to Deadline, Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch has officially signed on for the leading role in Paul Greengrass’ forthcoming period drama titled The Hood. The project is being likened to Braveheart and Gladiator, with Cumberbatch expected to portray a farmer who will become the leader of the peasant revolt in England.

The Hood will be written and directed by Greengrass. It will be produced by Tyler Thompson and Greggory Goodman, with Cross Creek also set to finance and produce the film.
Cumberbatch has quite a big year last 2021, as he starred in two very successful films including The Power of the Dog, which earned him an Oscar nomination, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, which earned a worldwide gross of over $1.8 billion. He is currently starring in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which has now grossed more than $700 million.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe star will next be seen in Netflix’s Wes Anderson-directed film adaptation of The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar as well as in the sci-fi drama film Morning alongside Laura Dern.
