Mark Wahlberg Boards True Oil Rig Explosion Tale Deepwater Horizon

In the works for some time, Summit Entertainment is reportedly eyeing Transformers: Age of Extinction star Mark Wahlberg to headline Deepwater Horizon, the true story of the 2010 BP oil rig explosion. Deadline has the news, bringing word that Wahlberg will play the rig’s second on-duty manager.

J.C. Chandor (Margin Call, All is Lost) is directing the film, which is based on the New York Times article Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour, written by David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul. The film plans to depict the courage of those who worked on the oil rig and the final minutes leading up to the disaster that ultimately led to great devastation.

Originally scripted by Matthew Sand, Deepwater Horizon was rewritten by Michael Carnahan and is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian.
