Per a report from Deadline, Sweeney will co-star in the film alongside Dakota Johnson. No information on who the Euphoria star will play just yet. The film will see Johnson suit up as the titular Marvel character. This will be the first superhero role for the Fifty Shades of Grey and The Lost Daughter star.
While not the most mainstream Spider-Man character, Madame Web first appeared in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #210 in 1980 from writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr. The character is a blind psychic that has become a major player in the world of Spider-Man due to her ties to “The Great Web,” a multiversal construct that ties all “Spider” characters together across the multiverse. Seeing how Spider-Man: No Way Home introduced the multiverse concept, we could see that continue in the Madame Web film.

Per Variety, it’s also been confirmed that S.J. Clarkson will direct the film. Clarkson is no stranger to the MCU as Clarkson worked on both Jessica Jones and The Defenders for Netflix. The script will be written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who wrote Morbius starring Jared Leto.
