Dimension Films announced today that it will release the supernatural thriller Demonic, presented by James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious), on December 12, 2014. The film is produced by Wan and Lee Clay (Beautiful Boy) and is directed by Will Canon (Brotherhood). The script is based on an original idea of Wan’s.
Golden Globe-nominated Maria Bello (A History of Violence) stars as the lead female along with Frank Grillo (The Purge: Anarchy).
The film centers on the aftermath of a horrific massacre where five college students were brutally murdered inside an abandoned home. Detective Mark Lewis and psychologist Dr. Elizabeth Klein question one of the few survivors who explains they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house, which was believed to be haunted. But what started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying.
“James Wan is the new master of terror and we are thrilled to be releasing his film this December,” said Erik Lomis, President of Theatrical Distribution & Home Entertainment for The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films.
The December 12 date has Demonic opening opposite Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice.
Wan’s latest film as a director, Fast & Furious 7, hits theaters April 2, 2015.
