Benjamin Bratt has joined the cast of Universal Pictures’ upcoming comedy sequel, Ride Along 2. Variety has the news, reporting that the Despicable Me 2 star will join the returning Ice Cube and Kevin Hart in the followup to this year’s comedy hit, which grossed more than $150 million worldwide.
The original film’s scribes Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi will return, as will director Tim Story. Their new script is said to both up the first film’s action level and expand the comedy’s cast with multicultural additions with trade suggesting that the action will be set in Miami this time around.
Ice Cube will again produce alongside Matt Alvarez, Will Packer and Larry Brezner. Production is targeted for this summer with a release date set for January 15, 2016, almost two years to the day after the original.
