Christian Slater Opens The Adderall Diaries Opposite James Franco

In the works for a few years, director Pamela Romanowsky’s adaptation of Stephen Elliott’s The Adderall Diaries has scored another lead in Christian Slater. Deadline reports that he’ll join the previously attached James Franco for the “true crime memoir.”

The non-linear text begins as a real-life investigation into the 2007 murder trial of Hans Reiser, accused of killing his wife, and the ensuing confession of his friend Sean Sturgeon (who, though he admits to several other murders, does not take responsibility for that specific murder). Throughout the course of the book, the experimental story turns into a twisted autobiography of Elliott’s own life, framed against the literary investigation.

Slater will play Reiser with Franco playing a version of Elliott, who investigates the case himself as he writes the book.
