Fans continue to eagerly await any updates on the upcoming next entry in the Call of Duty series. According to recent datamined information, fans might not have to wait too long.

When users datamined the upcoming Season 5 update to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (via VideoGamesChronicle), they found files related to this year’s entry in the Call of Duty series. Titled Call of Duty: Vanguard (as the above past report also stated), these files featured various shots of key art with the games logo on it, signifying what looks to be various bundles for the game. One of the files even seems to feature a Cross-Gen bundle opportunity, for players wanting to play but looking to upgrade their console in the future. It’s likely this will cost $10 as 2020’s Black Ops: Cold War was one of the few games that didn’t offer a free upgrade.
This is all leading up to an imminent reveal. PushSquare and DualShockers have both independently corroborated that Vanguard will be shown to the world on August 19.

Alongside the art, one of the files showed what looked to be pre-order bonuses, with one of the rewards being early access to the game’s open beta. Usually, Call of Duty games are released toward the beginning of fall, and with rumors beginning to pop up more persistently surrounding the upcoming game, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not we get any concrete information from Activision.

Vanguard has not been officially revealed, but reports say that it will be World War II first-person shooter developed by Sledgehammer Games, the team that led 2014’s Advanced Warfare and 2017’s WWII. It’ll be on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and is reported to include a campaign, multiplayer, and zombies in the European and Pacific theatres of the war. The aforementioned earlier report from June said that its plot will tell the story of the “birth of modern allied Special Forces.” Activision has not commented on any of this, but it’s likely just on the cusp of spilling the beans.
This reveal is likely going to be controversial as it is coming during the reckoning over at Activision Blizzard. The giant company has come under a lot of fire for its mismanagement, rampant sexism, and an overall toxic workplace that it has fostered for many years. This has resulted in lawsuits, firings, walkouts, and reports from multiple parts of the company detailing its harmful work practices.
