Leslie Grace has landed the role of Barbara Gordon in DC and Warner Bros.’ upcoming film Batgirl, according to Deadline. The actress, who recently starred in a breakout role in Jon M. Chu’s In the Heights, reportedly tested for the part this week.

Batgirl will center on Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon. The character was first seen in the 1967 Batman series with the late Yvonne Craig playing Barbara. Batgirl’s first comic book appearance was in Detective Comics #357 by writer Gardner Fox and artist Carmine Infantino.
Batgirl is being helmed by Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah from a screenplay by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee, Birds of Prey, The Flash) with Kristin Burr (Cruella) producing. The movie will release exclusively on HBO Max.
